I am currently at the International Semantic Web Conference. The tutorials sessions I attended were interesting, including "How to consume linked data on the web" and "Legal and social frameworks for sharing data on the web". In the "How to consume linked data on the web" tutorial, many interesting applications were shown including the BBC Music Project, which includes a powerful way of consuming the data from Musicbrainz, and how richly music track information can be fetched from the linked data cloud. Another interesting test application from BBC was a virtual radio commenter that will be automatically speaking depending on the tracks played on the system. It was quite cool, giving information about artists, release dates... In the legal aspect of data on the web tutorial, we had a lawyer in the session that was able to tackle legal issues in data reuse on the web. We also had a Science Commons representative, the people behind Creative Commons, as well as Tom Heath and Leigh Dodds from Talis. I gave a presentation at IWOD 2009, about our latest work on assessing relevance of statements in Ontology Evolution. More details are available on Evolva's website. The conference was interesting overall, with very interesting and various talks (e.g. talks by Nova Spivack (seems Twine direction is changing?), and Pat Hayes), panel discussions... Details can be found on ISWC's website.
